LION DAVID HARVEY
Folkestone Hythe & District Lions have pleasure in unanimously nominating Lion David Harvey as candidate for the post of District Governor 2026-2027
David has been a Lion since 2015 when he was invited to join the former Folkestone Lions Club (now Folkestone Hythe & District Lions Club) and has since held the position of President on two occasions, latterly for a two-year tenure during the very trying lockdown period. David is the Club's longstanding Activity Chair and also holds a position in Cabinet as Region Chair (Kent) Lions International 105SE.
David is certainly a person who devotes his spare time to helping others, being a Trustee of
Folkestone Rescue, a Trustee of the National Independent Lifeboat Association, the Boating Officer for Ashford Sea Cadets and Governor of RNLI. Until 2000 David's working life had been in I.T., working as a civilian contractor to Bae Systems – Saudi Arabia Tornado Project and as a specialist contractor employed by companies such as Lombard North Central, Dresdner Bank, Bankers Trust, Texaco, Asda, Kleinwort Benson, RBS, ABN, System House, Bank of America, Robertson Stephens (as Head of European Networks).
David moved from Ashford in 2010, having first opened their new venture, a toy shop in 2003 which has since evolved and become Frizbee Ltd, which provides inter alia embroidery, garment printing, paper printing, large format printing, kartoons and Kent School Uniform.
David married Joanne in 2025, and has two children Jake and Kirstie from his previous marriage and Sarah has a daughter Kayleigh and they both enjoy Dexter, their grandson.
David is very much "hands-on" and is a very involved member of our Club. David promotes not just the Club but the Lions generally at every opportunity. David is the first to volunteer his time, to help whenever and wherever possible, not just the community at large but also his fellow Lions. David will be exceptional in representing all Lions in the District, and we do not doubt that he will be a great asset to Cabinet in the role of District Governor.

Nomination for 2nd Vice District Governor 2026-27
I would like to thank my club Rottingdean & Saltdean Lions for their nomination for me to go forward for the post of 2nd vice District Governor 2026 - 2027.
I have been a Lion since 2013. My roles in my club have included chairing the fundraising committee for a number of years to being Lion President for two years running. Currently, I write articles for local magazines detailing our activities while also encouraging new members to join us. Also, I keep in touch with Friends of Lions, made up of past members and some possible new members, but all good associates of our club.
Over the last couple of years, I have been Zone Chair for 1c, Lions International 105SE, District. The was a rewarding job. My partner Lucy joined me in getting to know our clubs across the Zone. Lucy has made some good friends and enjoyed meeting members from different clubs. I have told Lucy, if I should have the honour to go forward as 2nd Vice District Governor, we will meet members across the District.
Currently, I am the Region Chair 1 for Sussex, and I coordinate the Global Service Team for our District. This is broadening my experience while making me more aware of the great service activities of our club. I have found that good service out in our communities can lead to the recruitment of new members, as they feel they want to be involved in what we do. I am also a Guiding Lion in my Zone.
I have spent thirty-four years in the Aerospace Industry. I started out as a scientist, moving into technical leadership roles, project management and marketing. I worked in the area of Avionics and spent twenty years working on research technology targeting the Airbus A380 platform. I spent some time in Toulouse, France where I visited the production line for the A380. At the time, it was thought someone could do their apprenticeship on this project and then spend their whole forty-year career on this production line. Oh, the best laid plans of mice and men.
Bid management was the next stage of my career, and I worked for a small company that provided bid support to our clients. More recently, I have gone freelance as a qualified copywriter, which led to me becoming a specialised note taker for disabled university students. I also train students in the use of Assistive Technology to help in their studies. I have worked with a range of universities from Portsmouth, Chichester, Sussex, Kingston, London School of Arts, London School of Economics, Westminster University, London University and Oxford University.
Also, I now mentor autistic students. I have found this to be most rewarding in doing my best to enable them to fulfil their potential. These students can be very talented in their particular sphere of interest.
As part of my many hobbies, I coordinate a Create Writing Group in a local library. We aim to support each other in our writing goals through workshops while promoting the use of libraries. As we all know, unfortunately, many libraries are under pressure of closure in these difficult times.
I have had a varied career over the years. My approach has always been to work as a team with a focus on meeting
goals. I believe it is best to work with consensus and to use persuasion and strength of argument in agreeing on what to do next. I would bring this method of working to the role of 2nd Vice District Governor.
If I am supported to go forward as 2nd Vice District Governor, I will be very honoured.
